Stripseal Expansion Joint

Design Principle

The IEC strip seal expansion joint is a mechanically sealed system that utilizes an extruded elastomeric seal held in place by various steel extrusions, commonly known as edge beams or steel rails. The elastomeric seal, often referred to as a strip seal, is mechanically locked into the steel extrusions to prevent the infiltration of water and debris. The edge beams are anchored to structural elements using high-strength concrete mortar or elastomeric mortar. Stripseal expansion joint is designed to cater for movement no more than 120mm.

Suitable Applications
IEC Stripseal joints are ideal for bridges with small to moderate movement ranges, making them suitable for highways, urban bridges, pedestrian walkways, and railway bridges. They perform well in normal climate conditions, low- to medium-traffic areas, and are an excellent choice for retrofit or replacement projects due to their cost-effectiveness, simplicity, and durability.

Quality&Features

Stripseal joints use high-grade steel edgebeams (ASTM A709 Grade 50 or S355) and durable elastomeric rubber seals, typically made of EPDM, to ensure watertightness and flexibility. The seals, conforming to ASTM D5973-97 standards, withstand temperatures from -40°C to 60°C and accommodate movements up to 120 mm. A specialized lubricant-adhesive ensures a secure seal during installation, providing a reliable and long-lasting solution for bridge expansion needs.
