Maogang Bridge, Shanghai, China
The Maogang Bridge in Shanghai’s Songjiang District serves as a modern replacement for an older structure, tripling its capacity with a width of 38.5 meters, accommodating six traffic lanes, pedestrian pathways, and bike lanes. Spanning 1,385 meters with a 225-meter main span, the new design blends contemporary aesthetics with historic preservation, featuring a parallel cable-stayed design symbolizing two "pillars of the sky."
IEC provided a combination of 100 MN spherical bearings and 2.5x2.5-meter super-large elastomeric bearings as part of an integrated seismic system. This advanced solution ensures the bridge’s structural safety and resilience, particularly in disaster mitigation scenarios.
